9RNi have been studying the Gothic Genre this term. As part of the unit they read and analysed a poem called ‘The Mistletoe Bough‘ by Thomas Haynes Bayly. In the poem a young bride disappears on her wedding night. They had to write newspaper articles about her disappearance.

Hi Dezhan,
Your newspaper article about this tragic event was very clever. You obviously looked at the poem carefully and thought about what might have actually happened in this situation. Wouldn't it be scary to be lying in a chest and not be able to get out. Do you think she started panicking? I wonder if there were scratches on the top of the chest as she fought to get out?
Well done and I look forward to reading more of your work at another stage.
Hi Dezhan,
Your article makes this poem sound cool. I want to read it now.
It is strange to me that the bride's husband could not hear her scream. It strikes me as suspicious. I also wonder if the husband thought she had left him. That would have been sad if they were newly married!
You wrote this newspaper article well and have obviously worked hard to follow the conventions of a newspaper report.
